  • The CAA is designed to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, specifically targeting non-Muslims such as Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians who arrived in India before December 31, 2014. (With inputs from agencies)


  • List of Documents Required to Apply for CAA:
  • Copy of passport issued by Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan.
  • Registration Certificate or Residential Permit issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) or Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) in India.
  • Birth certificate issued by a government authority in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan.
  • School certificate or educational certificate issued by school, college, board, or university authorities in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan.
  • Identity document issued by the government of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan, or any other government authorities or agencies in these countries.
  • License or certificate issued by a government authority in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan.
  • Land or tenancy records in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan.
  • Any document proving lineage to a citizen of one of the three countries (parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents).
  • Additional documents issued by government authorities or agencies in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan establishing the applicant’s origin.
  • Documents proving entry into India on or before December 31, 2014:
  • – Visa and immigration stamp on arrival in India.
    – Registration Certificate or Residential Permit issued by FRRO or FRO in India.
    – Census Enumerator’s slip issued during census-related surveys.
    – Government-issued licenses, certificates, or permits.
    – Official letters issued by government or court.
    – Birth certificate issued in India.
    – Land or tenancy records in India.
    – PAN Card issuance document.
    – Documents issued by Central or State Government, Public Sector Undertakings, financial institutions, etc.
    – Certificate issued by elected member or revenue officer.
    – Bank or Post Office account records.
    – Insurance policies.
    – Utility bills in the applicant’s name.
    – Court or Tribunal records.
    – Employment documents (EPF, pension, ESIC, etc.).
    – School leaving certificate issued in India.
    – Academic certificates.
    – Municipality trade license.
    – Marriage certificate.
    Note: Documents should be issued by Indian authorities and remain admissible even beyond their validity period. They must establish the applicant’s entry into India on or before December 31, 2014.
